One of my favorite part of creating florals is designing pieces for flower girls and ring bearers.  I always love to include a playful, whimsical factor for the flower girls and make them something that they can take home and have long after the wedding. Flower scepters, also called flower wands have become a favorite of mine to create and the girls love them! Here are a few examples;

This one was created for my Etsy Shop, Noonan’s Designs, and is created with natural wood sola flowers, light grey felt petals, pearls and feathers, great for all ages and very lightweight.

This adorable flower girl was part of the bride and groom’s modern black and white wedding, but the wand still created a fun look for her to carry down the aisle.

Onto the ring bearers, typically couples will just opt for a small boutonniere for them, but when you want to get creative there are lots of options for ring bearers. Choose a creative pillow, bible accents, wooden discs and much more can be created “to carry rings”. Here is a great moss covered pillow we’ve created that would be perfect for a woodland wedding. It’s also sold on our Etsy store and created with preserved sheet moss, burlap, a sola flower, and accents of birch branches and feathers.

So when your planning your upcoming wedding don’t forget to talk to your florist about creating something special for these little ones, because often times they are in the spotlight, right next to the bride of course!

I love these flower girl scepters (aka; floral wands)

I’ve been close friends with this beautiful bride Erica for years and I was so thrilled to design her dream wedding. I loved the visions we put together and the monochromatic groupings. The overall look came together so well by creating clean lines with the flowers that matched the modern feel of the venue. From the architecture of the venue, the beautiful sunset and the brides gorgeous smile there was so much beauty going on in this wedding it’s hard not to love.

This book was so meaningful because my Aunt Kathie gave it to me in memory of my late Grandma Winnie, who always told me “You can do anything you put your mind to.” I have followed those words and do my best to always keep them close to me knowing she is my angel watching over me. I wanted to share a few great quotes from this small, but oh-so-meaningful book, so that you too, could keep in mind that everyday life is a gift and that you might too, have an angel watching over you…

When faced with obstacles that seem overwhelming, open your eyes, look for a new road and head in a new direction. You might find a wonderful surprise waiting for you, just around the bend.

Local Florist Receives Coveted Industry Designation

BALTIMORE (July 2012) – Katie Noonan AIFD, CFD of Noonan’s Wine Country Designs in San Luis Obispo, Calif. was awarded the floral industry’s coveted Accredited in Floral Design designation, and was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) during ceremonies on Saturday, July 14 at AIFD’s internationally acclaimed 2012 Symposium “Caliente” held July 12-16, 2012 in Miami, Fla.

A non-profit education association dedicated to the advancement of professional floral design through education and leadership, AIFD Accredited membership is regarded as a high honor in the floral industry. Members are distinguished by the use of the “AIFD” mark as an addendum to their name.

With approximately 1,200 members worldwide, AIFD recognizes those who have excelled in their floral design skills. Candidates become accredited by successfully demonstrating their advanced abilities before an international panel of evaluators.

The 2013 National Symposium “Passion” will be held June 28-July 2 in Las Vegas, Nev.
